Working At DCastalia
…Things occur to you. If you’re sitting around trying to dream up a great idea,
you can sit there a long time before anything happens. But if you just get to work,
something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else
that you reject will push you in another direction…
When someone sees a boy of my age (currently 12) doing Web development,
some find it fascinating, some find it queer, and many of my friends find it boring
(or lifeless). But I didn’t get up one morning and thought that lets do web development.
It all started with my blog. I was driven by my dream and still am.
And where has your dream got you to?
Where? DCastalia ofcourse!
At the first monday of July, I find my self in a house, made into a office, with dark brown colored tables with computers on top it. On my
left there was Toshiba laptop which didn’t even start. In front of me sitting was Sabila Enun (project manager) and some other people sitting in that room where
Minkul Alam and Kazi Sarowar Turzo (Flash Guy).
Then I was then intoduced to my master(I’m the apprentice) Somrat (WordPress Guy +
Mark Zuckerberg for dogs).
He asked me some questions from which I forgot most but there was this one question which I will always remember: Can you add a menu?.
Well, ofcourse I can! But I didn’t use it and the theme I was using (old design: v2) didn’t have any fallback other than displaying “add menu in apperance tab”! What a shame. Thats what you should remember: the slightest of change can make a big difference!
I did not work that day, I had a terrible headache since I was up all night watching the final of Euro 2012.
It has been 1 month since I’v been working. But soon my holidays are going to over and back to yet another year of school. At DCastalia I have developed one site: tinkutraveler.com. I am not very proud of it. I have made very sloppy markup and I aim to do better in the future. Still, I am proud of it- I developed a website for a real client. Yeah!
DCastlia has taught me a lot of things. Most importantly I have learned that clients always keep wanting things and you have to do the site no matter how much performace goes down the rain.
Even this will be a foolish thing to say but here are some of the things DCastlia should improve to do better at what they do:
- Start using HTML5 and CSS3 and provide fallback for older browsers. Spec writers make this things for us, and if we don’t use it-who will?
- (This does not apply to Minkul Bhaia) Keep up with the latest technologies and new things in Web Development (Like node.js, backbone.js). Never stop learning:
Never stop learning because the moment you stop learning is the moment you become obsolete.
- Start using preprocessors like SASS or LESS (choose SASS!!) & CoffeeScript. It fells awesome and its good for productivity!
- Do not show the lack of AWESOMENESS!!
Lastly I want to say that you guys were great to work with and I hope I’ll work here again. Until then Keep rocking!!
